VIENNA – June 29, 2025 – The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has issued a fresh warning that the Islamic Republic of Iran is preparing to restart high-level uranium enrichment within the coming months, raising global alarm over nuclear non-proliferation efforts.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions following Israeli strikes on key Iranian infrastructure, including Tehran’s Evin Prison and nuclear-related sites. The IAEA, in its quarterly briefing, confirmed that surveillance equipment showed renewed activity at Iran’s Fordow and Natanz facilities—both previously central to its nuclear program.
Iranian officials have not officially commented on the report, but analysts suggest the move is part of a broader strategic response to recent attacks and diplomatic isolation.
Western powers, including the United States, Germany, and France, have urged Tehran to avoid further escalation and return to compliance with the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), from which the U.S. withdrew in 2018.
The IAEA has called for renewed diplomatic engagement and access to all Iranian nuclear sites to prevent a full-scale collapse of oversight mechanisms.
