Sudan Showcases Agricultural Recovery Plan at UN Financing Summit in Seville

Sudan is participating in the Fourth United Nations International Conference on Financing for Development, held in Seville, Spain, from June 30 to July 3, 2025. The Sudanese delegation is led by General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, who arrived in Seville to take part in this high-level global event. The conference brings together world leaders, multilateral institutions, and international financial organizations—including the World Bank and the African Development Bank—to address critical gaps in financing sustainable development, with a special focus on rural development and agriculture in least-developed countries. Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin, Acting Undersecretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed Sudan’s active engagement in the summit. He stated that Sudan will present a national recovery vision aimed at rebuilding agricultural infrastructure destroyed during the armed conflict, particularly by the actions of rebel militias. The plan emphasizes the restoration of the agricultural sector to its central role in ensuring national food security and boosting exports to neighboring countries that depend significantly on Sudanese produce. Sudan’s participation also aligns with broader summit objectives, which include advocating for increased donor commitments, debt relief mechanisms, and innovative financing models to unlock private investment in food systems and climate-resilient infrastructure. With global aid flows shrinking and humanitarian needs in Sudan escalating, the Sudanese delegation is expected to press for urgent international support to revitalize its rural economy and generate employment opportunities in hard-hit communities. As global leaders navigate political and financial tensions surrounding the conference’s “Seville Commitment,” Sudan’s presence underscores the urgent need to anchor development funding in practical recovery efforts, especially for conflict-affected nations striving to rebuild critical sectors such as agriculture.
