Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris today called on leaders and figures of Sudan’s native administration to play a vital role in supporting the national recovery agenda under the “Hope Government” initiative. Speaking at the Council of Ministries complex in Port Sudan, the Prime Minister emphasized the urgency of uniting efforts to rebuild what was destroyed by war and restructure the country’s social fabric.
Dr. Idris stressed that Sudan is going through a critical phase that demands the wisdom and influence of traditional community leadership, urging native administration leaders to channel their respected status toward advancing national priorities and the success of the transitional period.
Native Administration Law Reviewed Amid Post-War Realities
Minister of Federal Governance, Mohamed Kortikila, participated in the meeting and addressed the current legal framework governing native administration. He noted that the war’s consequences necessitated a thorough legal review, which has already been completed. He announced upcoming workshops aimed at refining the structure and performance of native administrations to align with the principles of a lawful state and the demands of post-conflict reconstruction.
Supporting the Dignity War and Humanitarian Efforts in Darfur
Representatives of the Supreme Council for Native Administration discussed their potential roles in supporting the national army during what they termed the “Dignity War,” as well as promoting people-to-people diplomacy.
They also underscored the importance of native administration in addressing the growing humanitarian crisis in the Darfur region, highlighting the value of culturally grounded community engagement.
Joint Agreement to Lift Sieges and Join Peace Council
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement on the need to coordinate with the armed forces, allied units, and relevant institutions to lift the blockade on El Fasher and other besieged cities in Darfur and Kordofan.
Additionally, the parties agreed to involve native administration leaders in the Social Peace Council to support nationwide reconciliation and peacebuilding efforts.
